Tune In
Proverbs 4: 1 Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain understanding.
The Lord God Almighty loves to communicate to his beloved people! He actually speaks to us throughout each day using many different means. He wants to get close to us and for us to live intimately with him.
Communication is very important in any relationship. In our lives as sons and daughters of God, communication is key to nurture, deepen, strengthen, and sweeten our relationship with God our Father, Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit our Teacher and Counsellor.
But our “modern lifestyles” tend to undermine the constancy and strength of our relationship with God. There are so many things that demand or ask for our time. And if we are not careful, we can end up giving very little time listening to and talking with our God. At times, we give some time to God, but it’s not quality time because we are already exhausted or stressed out that we cannot even read the Bible with concentration, and pray with focus and passion. And as a result, our relationship with God suffers.
We all need to make radical choices that will protect our communication with God. For some of us, that may mean putting a maximum limit on how much time we give to social media (say limiting our Instagram and Facebook to 1-2 hours total each day only). For others, it may take the form of limiting watching TV (especially telenovelas) to say 1-2 hours per day. You don’t need to completely eliminate social media or TV watching, but you can limit it so that you can also give quality time to other important things, especially spending time listening to and talking with God.
Your life and mine can radically change for the better if we discipline ourselves to tune in to God every day, being sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit every single moment and being obedient to his voice. Hours of time spent each day on Facebook and TV cannot guarantee a blessed life, but spending time with God (and following what he says) will surely result to a godly, blessed, and peaceful life!
God’s rich blessings on you and your family and ministry this week!
