What Godly Fathers Do
Today we pause from our busy schedules and take time to honor the men who brought us to this world- our fathers! Today, we celebrate Father’s Day! It’s a day we think about our fathers. We acknowledge what they have done for us. And we exert effort to thank them, to give back to them, to spend time with them, and to love them in return.
Every person’s experience of his or her father is unique. We experienced our fathers differently. But we can all thank God that we have or had fathers. They are a blessing to us.
As we think about Father’s Day in particular and fatherhood in general, let us learn from the Holy Scriptures about the roles of fathers. We will be reminded of the Lord’s expectations from fathers. Reflecting on and talking about these things is beneficial for all. Single men will probably become fathers themselves, and, thus, can prepare for their own fatherhood in the years ahead. Mothers can benefit by being more aware of how they can pray for and support their husbands so that they can continuously improve as fathers. Single ladies will be able to identity qualities that they will want the men that they will marry someday to have or seek to develop.
As we celebrate Father’s Day today, let us remember to thank the greatest Father of all, the Lord himself. The Lord is the ultimate and very best Father. All we need and desire are found in him. Let us draw near to him today and always, and receive his perfect love and strength for us.
