Focused on Heaven

This is a day that the Lord has made! Let us rejoice and be glad! The focus of our minds and hearts determines the direction of our lives. Whatever it is that you think of always will eventually direct your life. For example, a person who is always thinking of making new products or services will eventually find himself or herself innovating and creating as a way of life. It will become normal to him. To not be creative would eventually be strange and unacceptable. In our lives as followers of Jesus Christ, we do well to heed the instruction to seek the heavenly things. Our thoughts and our affections are to be for the things that will last forever (the eternal things). The Lord wants us to be desiring and pursuing things related to God and eternity. We will not neglect the basic concerns of earthly life (work, family, studies, etc.), but we will not be absorbed or pre-occupied by them. Rather, we are focused on heaven and how we can best prepare to enter it with flying colors by the grace of God. Are your thoughts and affections mainly on God and what he wants? Or are you so pre-occupied with meeting your needs and/or pursuing your earthly dreams? What are you thinking of always? What excites you the most? As far as God is concerned, he wants you to set your minds on the things of heaven, not on the things of earth! This is because you have already died to sin and the world, and you are now alive to God and holiness. When you focus your mind and heart on heavenly things, your life will find greater meaning, more satisfaction, and you will live a wiser life. The result is blessing not only in eternity, but even here on earth!
