STOP and THINK: The Power and Blessing of Spiritual Reflective Pause

Posted on January 5, 2025January 5, 2025

It is in the reflective pause that we quiet our souls, and we drown out the turmoil, the confusion, the voice of the media, that voice in the world, and it’s Jesus’ voice that we hear. It is a gentle whisper. It is a voice of truth, it is a voice of hope, and love, it’s a voice of authority. Receive a powerful message as you tune in to our NEW YEAR SUNDAY WORSHIP CELEBRATION!

What are Spiritual Reflective Pauses?

Spiritual - With guidance from God through his Spirit, based on the Scriptures
Reflective - "meditation" as taught in the Scriptures talking back and forth with the Holy Spirit; this involves thinking, including some study, comparison, research, trend analysis, etc.

Why stop and think and do Reflective Pauses?

1. To evaluate (2 Corinthians 13:5-6)
2. To see the true picture (Psalm 139:23-24; 1 Samuel 16:7)
3. To appreciate and celebrate (Psalm 103:2-5; 1 Samuel 12:24)
4. To break the momentum of wrong things (Haggai 1:5-7 Haggai 2:18)
5. To plan and build momentum for the good things you want to do (Acts 20:24; Luke 13:32-33)
6. To make needed changes (Matthew 7:3)
7. To rest (Matthew 11:28-29)
8. To receive healing from emotional and mental wounds (1 Samuel 30:6; Psalm 147:3)
9. Much more

How to stop and think and do Reflective Pauses?

1. For the period of time that you will stop and think, reduce your activities to the least possible level (Luke 6:12-13)
2. Identify available times and days (Galatians 1:15-17)
3. Identify and arrange for a suitable venue, and where appropriate/necessary, ask some people to go with you (Matthew 26:36-39)
4. Schedule times in prayer ("prayer" is mentioned here broadly to include times in the Word, reading of selected books that are especially helpful for the journey, journalling, and similar activities) (Mark 1:35; Luke 22:39-42)
5. Follow through with your plan and refuse to be distracted (Philippians 3:13-14)
6. Format: May be varied (Romans 14:5-6)
7. Activities on the actual time with God: worship, Bible reading, prayer, reading of especially selected books, intercession, writing down specific instructions (or steps) that the Lord shows you. etc (Acts 13:2)

Do what you learn during your Spiritual Reflective Pauses (James 1:22, Acts 10:9, 16, 19-20,23)
