What Would Jesus Do?
Last tuesday evening, my family (Pastor Leah, Paul, and I) had our family bonding activity, like what we try to do every Tuesday night. We had dinner at SM City and went home to watch a Christian movie. This time, we watched the movie WWJD. I admit I wasn’t too excited about the movie when we started watching it. But my feelings started to change. And when we finished watching it, I was almost in tears for joy because the film did encourage and enlighten me.
I had heard of the expression WWJD (acronym for What Would Jesus Do?) before, but it did not stick much with my mind and heart. But seeing the concept of WWJD played out on film helped me to appreciate the concept and its power to guide a Christ-follower to make good and godly decisions. The movie, I found out later, was based on the book, “In His Steps: What Would Jesus Do”, written by Charles Sheldon. “In His Steps” is the second most purchased Christian book in history, second to the Bible.
My mind then went to other scenarios where people can be helped to make wise and right (though sometimes unpopular) decisions just by asking the question, “If Jesus was in this situation, what would he (Jesus) do?”. I appreciate the simplicity of the idea and how easily it can be used by everyone. When faced with a decision, just ask yourself, “What would Jesus do if he were facing the same situation?”. The Holy Spirit can use that question to help you remember what the Bible says (directly or indirectly) about that issue. He can enlighten you to sense how the Lord Jesus would act or react when placed in the same or similar circumstances. The answers you can arrive at under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and based on the Word of God (the Bible) after asking that question can be very enlightening, empowering, and helpful to yourself as well as to others.
Are you facing difficult situations today? Are there issues that you still don’t know how to respond or react to? Just ask yourself, “What would Jesus do if he were here?” Chances are you will be led to a helpful answer that will glorify God and bring blessing to your life as well as to others.
