You and I are at war with the ungodly worldly system, the sinful nature (flesh), and the devil. Temptations come to us every day. We can use strategies to fight and overcome them. Our goal is to enjoy and please God every day for as long as we are alive.
The Lord calls you and me to a lifetime of righteous, peaceful, and joyful living (Romans 14:17). It takes the right strategies to win with flying colors. Fear of negative consequences and putting to death evil desires are valid and helpful tactics. But there is one very powerful strategy that sadly is untapped by so many Christians. The result has been the needless loss of some battles and lives.
Though we need to make use of several strategies, the best strategy is to overcome temptation and sin through the pursuit and enjoyment of superior pleasures. The power of sin is in the offer of pleasure to those who will take it. The most powerful way to defeat sin is to find a higher and superior pleasure. This we can find in God and God alone.
The pleasures and delights that God gives are full (complete) and eternal (lasts forever). The Bible says that in God’s presence is fullness of joy; at his right hand are pleasures forevermore (Psalm 16:11). When a Christian experiences these joys and delights deeply and consistently, he will be strong to resist the temptations of sin. Sin’s pleasures are only temporary (Hebrews 11:25) and leaves regrets and unhappy consequences. But the pleasures of godliness bring only good things.
Find and enjoy the greater delights that God gives generously. And sin will begin to lose its power over your life. Enjoying God results to greater holiness, freedom, peace, and joy.
