What To Do When Terrible Things Happen

Posted on November 22, 2016July 29, 2024

1 Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him [to kill him], because all the people were bitter in soul, each for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.

What do you do when bad things happen to you? How do you respond to setbacks, break downs, or even tragedies? Your reaction to “negative” events determines the outcome of events. By that I mean, how you respond will make things better or (hopefully not) worse. Even the worst of events or circumstances can end with some benefit or victory if we respond with faith, wisdom, and strength. The Lord did not promise a life without pain or trouble. What he promised was that he will be with us and we will overcome whatever may come our way. Our trials will make us better, not bitter, when we react to situations with God’s empowerment and guidance. No problem can destroy us. We will rise above the challenges, even tragedies, of life. The Bible, as the Word of God, contains the promises and instructions of the Lord on how we are to respond to “negative” events in our lives. Today, we will look at some of these promises and instructions. When we understand and apply them, we will win over any trial that may come our way. Don’t respond to setbacks or problems with cynicism, unbelief, anger, revenge, or other common, but ungodly responses. With God’s help, control your emotion, seek God’s guidance, and do what God says (even if it unpopular or even sounds foolish). Those who obey God always end up blessed and victorious. May the Lord’s rich blessings be on you, your family, and ministry today! Lathur Badoy
