Matthew 9:37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; 38 therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
People need the Lord. We all do. And our greatest needs are spiritual, not material. Our most urgent issues are eternal, not temporal or earthly. And of all spiritual and eternal needs, the need for forgiveness of sins and a right standing with God is the most important. The Lord Jesus said that a person really has nothing if he possesses the world and yet loses his soul. This is a massive correction to the thinking of so many people. We all need to value souls or eternal destination more than worldly comfort and peace. It’s not wrong for people to seek lives where they can enjoy the good gifts of God on this earth. Yet they must seek, above all, the safety of their souls from eternal judgment and condemnation. And they can do that when they hear and understand the gospel. There is a desperate call for help from people in need of the truth. Others are not keenly conscious of their need for God, and that makes reaching out to them even more necessary. There is a huge spiritual harvest that is waiting. And the Lord Jesus commands you and me to go out and do our very best to ensure that the full harvest of souls for Christ happens. It’s time to wake up from spiritual sleep. This is now the moment to rise up and labor with God for the lives of people. Will you respond to Christ’s call? Will you obey the Lord’s command to go and proclaim the good news of salvation to people? Together let’s bring in the harvest.
