Building the Church Together
LATEST SUNDAY WORD
What is the Lord Jesus doing these days? The answer is that he is building his church. Since the day Jesus Christ returned to heaven and until the time he comes back to earth to rule as its King, Jesus Christ is occupied building his church. The church is made up of people whom God called to himself and have responded to that call. They have put their faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior. The “church” as described in the Bible is the body of believers in the whole world. But the “church” is also described in the Bible as the local community of followers of Jesus. Thus, the Bible speaks of “the church of God in Rome” or “the church of God in Philippi” (Rome and Philippi are cities that existed at that time).
You and I are called by God to help build the worldwide (global) body of believers as well as the local community of faith. In our case, the Lord wants you and me to build the local family of believers called Lighthouse Christian Fellowship. We have the awesome privilege and solemn responsibility to build the spiritual family that we love and consider to be our “home” called Lighthouse. Each one of us is expected to do our share in making sure, by the grace of God, that our church grows, reaches the people God wants us to reach, and fulfills all her potential in the Lord. The Lord has given every single person in the church a valuable ability that, if used faithfully and passionately, will contribute to the growth of the church.
What specifically can you and I do to help build our church? Practically speaking, we build the church by catching the vision, modelling the vision, and imparting the vision of seeing large numbers of people become devoted disciples of Jesus Christ. We also build the church by protecting its unity, supporting its leadership, serving in its ministries, and helping it to grow. We help Lighthouse become what God wants it to become by giving generously to it and building its testimony.
This year 2013, decide to give your very best to help our church grow, fulfill her calling, and reach her destiny. With all of us working together and the Lord leading and blessing us, we cannot fail. We will succeed.
