Cultivating a Culture of Honor – Part 2
“Honor isn’t what you get from others. It is what you give because of who you are.” (Danny Silk). Those who participated in the worship celebrations last Sunday heard that quote. That quote is quite a challenge, but we can do it because of the help of God.
Today, we will continue our study into the value of giving honor to people, regardless of who or where they are in the social ladder. We will build on the excellent ideas that were taught last Sunday. We will go a bit deeper into some concepts that were introduced last time. This teaching is given with the prayer that the Lord will use this to raise our view of others and change the way we treat them if change is needed.
Because God created all individuals in his image and likeness (that is, carrying some of his attributes of greatness and worth), all individuals have great value in God’s eyes. Society at large may look down on some people, but God esteems them. Family or friends may look down on some because they have seen their failures, weaknesses, or even blatant moral sins. But God still respects them and treats them with dignity.
The Bible speaks of the great worth of each individual regardless of how much (or little) money they have. God commands people to treat others with respect. The Bible also speaks of the great transforming power of treating people with honor. It opens the door for great blessing for the one who shows honor and empowers the person who receives honor to become a better person.
