Enjoying the goodness of God in our lives
One of the most constant declarations in the Bible about the character of God is that God is good. Throughout all of it (from the Old Testament Scriptures to the New Testament Scriptures), we find the truth that God is good resounding loud and clear. There is no denying its truth, power, and importance.
Today, the Lord wants to refresh your heart by reminding you of the goodness of the Lord to you. You may not have gotten everything you wanted (so did everyone else), but the acts of kindness of God in your life are very evident if you would be willing to acknowledge them. The sun shines for you everyday. You don’t have to pay for the air that your breathe (without which you will die in a very short period of time). You live in a physical creation that you didn’t create, but you have the privilege to enjoy. There’s the love and care of family, church, friends, and so on that makes life worth living. And the list could go on and on.
The truth is that the goodness of God is very real. There are human experiences that may seem to threaten to question it. Disappointments, sickness or diseases, serious financial problems, and other “negative” experiences have the potential of diminishing faith in the goodness of God. But they cannot. Evil is real, but is a different and separate issue. Pains and sorrows are brought about by man’s sinfulness. God did not cause evil. It is people’s actions out of their own free will that cause pain in other people. The meaning of goodness is lost if there is no possibility of evil (otherwise, people are just like robots). When you are hurt, God did not cause it. Don’t blame God. It is other people’s actions (some times your own decisions of failures) that bring trouble or pain. But God remains to be good. He is good all the time.
Receive a fresh touch from God today. His plans for you are not for evil, but for a future and a hope (see Jeremiah 29:11). Trust in him. Follow him. Taste and see that the Lord is good. The person who trusts in him is blessed (Psalm 34:8).
Enjoy God’s goodness in your life today!
