JESUS CHRIST WANTS FOLLOWERS NOT FANS
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) “God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24) TODAY THE LORD IS CALLING YOU TO DEFINE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH HIM – ARE YOU REALLY A FOLLOWER OR JUST A FAN? Fans want a no-strings-attached relationship based on their terms. The Lord Jesus wants followers not just fans or enthusiastic admirers “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ (Matthew 7:21 – 23) MANY PEOPLE THINK THAT THEY ARE FOLLOWERS BUT THEY ARE REALLY ONLY FANS (2 Timothy 2:20 – 21; Matthew 13:24 – 30) EXAMPLES OF FANS IN THE BIBLE (John 6:9 - 15, 24 – 27; John 6:57 – 60, 65 – 66) EXAMPLES OF FOLLOWERS IN THE BIBLE (Acts 20:24; 2 Timothy 4:6 – 8; John 21:18 – 19) FOLLOWERS SEEK TO LOVE GOD WITH THEIR WHOLE LIVES (Matthew 22:37 – 38; Revelation 3:15 – 16; Romans 12:1 – 2) Followers Practice Basic Christian Lifestyle:- Read and think about the Word of God every day (Matthew 4:4)
