Hebrews 12:15 - 17 See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God....that no one is sexually immoral or unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.
If you are a true child of God, you have a birthright that entitles you to spiritual authority and blessings. The authority and blessings affect every area of your life, and extends beyond this earth to the future new earth. Tied to your birthright is dignity, favor, prosperity, and more.
But some who consider themselves to be children of God are selling their birthright for very temporary pleasures. Like Esau in the book of Genesis, they are exchanging their standing before God and people just for some cheap and passing gratification of the body. They do not value their God-given status as children of God and heirs of the earth. They despise their birthright.
The result is tragic. The loss can remain forever. Some things can be lost and never recovered again. It can get beyond reach of even loud cries and tears of regret. So moral and spiritual compromise are never a good idea. There’s never a time when they are justifiable. We must avoid them at all cost, by God’s enabling power.
Are you selling your birthright for some small, temporary pleasure such as a sexual encounter, a business deal, a job offer, an attractive man or woman, or a desired course grade? Don’t do it. The consequences will come. There will be regret if you compromise and despise your spiritual birthright. But if you stay faithful to God in spite of the temptations, you will enjoy the authority, favor, and blessings of God.
May the Lord empower you and make you faithful to him all the days of your life!
