Living as faithful stewards of God’s resources
You are a steward! By definition, a steward is “a person who administers the property, house, finances, etc. of another” (The Free Dictionary). As a follower of Christ, you manage God’s property for God. You have the awesome privilege as well as solemn responsibility to manage the resources that God entrusted to you for the purposes God has made known to you.
The way you use the time you have, the opportunities given to you, the money entrusted to you, and the abilities that you have show the quality of stewardship in your life. I encourage you to cultivate the attitudes, priorities, commitments, and lifestyle of a good steward of God’s many gifts.
The time will come when you and I will face God in a judgment and give an accounting of the time, opportunities, finances, and capacities he has given you. That judgment time will be marked by much joy and reward for the loyal servants, and loud cries and deep regret for those who took for granted the seriousness of their accountability to God for the resources that were entrusted to them. Live in such a way that you will be with that first group of people, not the second one. Live as a faithful steward of God’s resources.
How are you using your time? If you hardly make time to pray and be with God’s people (like in a gathering like this one), you are not being a good steward of God’s time that has been entrusted to you. How are you using the opportunities that have been given to you? If you never use them to bring some people closer to God, you are not being faithful to God. How about the finances that God has allowed you to have or the skills that you have? If you are only using them to feed your selfishness and immaturity and not in worshipping God and telling some people about him somehow, you are not being faithful. The Lord is not putting you down (through giving you a guilt trip), but is lifting you up by helping you see the great rewards of faithful stewardship to God. If you love the Lord, be a faithful administrator of the things he has given you.
