PASSION
The questions you and I ask determine the answers that you and I get. And the answers that we get determine the direction and quality of our lives. This applies in many areas of our lives.
In life, the question, “What do I want to do?” is better than “What should I do?”. Let me explain. The question “What do I want to do?” speaks of a life that has been set up or structured to be lived from the heart. The person who is guided by that question lives his or her life doing the things that flow from the God-given desires inside of him. He likes his/her job, has a reasonably healthy and happy family life, serves God and people according to the things that he/she loves to do and is capable of doing, and the like.
On the other hand, the person who lives his life asking the question, “What should I do?” may have set up his/her life in a way that he/she is merely fulfilling duties and obligations, some of which he/she may enjoy and some of which he/she may not. He/she lives more under a law instead of being guided by passions and desires that God has placed in his/her heart. He/she may hate his/her job or business, may be complaining about his/her family relationships, or may not be enjoying the forms of service that he/she does for God or people.
The Lord wants you to live your life doing what you want to do- at least soon or eventually. He has placed inside you desires that serve as your guide in living a life that is fully free and alive so that you can glorify God fully. Listen to those desires. Live by them. While you and I should be responsible, do what is right, and not be selfish, we can also make decisions that direct or re-direct our lives in ways that fulfill our innermost desires (for good and godly things) which God placed inside of us.
You will experience deep joy and lasting satisfaction in what you do (in the home, at work/business, in school, in the church, in society, etc) only if you live from the desires that God has placed inside of you. Your witness for Christ and the gospel will be powerful and life-transforming for others in the medium and long-term only if you live with passion and the deep satisfaction that it brings. Live from your heart (under safe and healthy parameters) and you will live the abundant life that God wants you to live.
