Planting and Harvesting
Life involves planting and harvesting. No I’m not referring to farming physical crops like corn, rice, or fruits like mango or durian (although that is included). I’m talking about the law of life that we reap what we sow. Friendly people have many friends. Faithful people have loyal people in their lives. Those who give generously tend to get help when they need it also.
Your life right now (as a whole or in specific areas) is mostly a harvest of what you have planted in the past. The people who had good grades in college or developed some valuable skills (whether academic-related or not) are probably enjoying good employment more than others who did not give as much effort to their studies or skill development. The people who took good care of their bodies probably enjoy better health than those who were careless or those who abused their bodies. Those who disciplined themselves spiritually in the past (and continued in it) are probably enjoying a closer relationship with God and a more fruitful service to God.
Your life in the future will depend on what you plant now. A person can increase the quality of his life for the glory of God by planting good things (faithfulness in relationships, diligence in work, studies, or business, etc). The opposite is also true: a person can increase his problems by planting bad things (disloyalty in relationships, financial mismanagement, careless living, etc). The Lord wants you to plant good things so that you will harvest a life of righteousness, peace, and joy for the glory of God.
Reflect on your life today. Think about what you are harvesting (the results). If you see negative things, ask the Lord’s forgiveness for bad things that you have planted and decide to change with God’s help. Then start planting good seeds so that you can harvest good and happy things in the future. This may mean doing necessary things to make things new in your life, like asking the forgiveness of people you have hurt, deciding to finally correct some wrong lifestyle choices, or stopping some destructive or dangerous habits in your life.
Above all, remember that the Lord’s grace is a significant factor in all this. Don’t forget to pray and bring God into the situations of your life through prayer and surrender. Ask God’s help. Follow what he says (its written in a wonderful book called the Bible). Keep planting good seeds. For sure, you will reap a good harvest for the honor of God and your own happiness.
