The fear of God: The forgotten pathway to promotion and prosperity
Do you want to experience promotion and prosperity? There are several major paths people take in order to be promoted and to prosper. Most people take the “My success depends on me” path and spend most, if not all, of their time making success happen to them. They work very hard, some times at the expense of their personal health, family and/or friends, relationship with God, and other very important things. They often experience some measure of promotion or prosperity. But though hard work is praised in the Holy Scriptures and each person is expected to be diligent and hardworking, personal determination and hard work are not the best way to experience promotion and prosperity. It is too taxing and too costly. There is a better way.
Some individuals depend on other people so that they will advance and do well. Much of their lives is spent building connections, pleasing people, and staying close to individuals who have power or resources to help them succeed. Treating other people well and being willing to receive help from others are good attitudes. It’s true that other people can help you and me be promoted or prosper in some way or area of life. But there is no guarantee that there will always be people who will give us some favor or help at every stage of our lives. We cannot leave our futures on the mercy of what people may (or may not) do for us during the times that we need or desire help or favor. There must be a better way.
The Holy Scriptures teach us that our promotion and prosperity is not so much a result of our self-effort and the kindness of some people to us as it is a result of the blessing of God on our lives. In the end, we are blessed because God has commanded or allowed it. Promotion and prosperity come from God and from following the commands and principles God has declared in the Holy Scriptures.
Today, let’s be reminded of a very important forgotten pathway to promotion and prosperity. It is the fear of God. This is not an unhealthy fear, like a person is scared of ghosts or vampires. Rather, this is a very healthy kind of fear. At its essence, the fear of God is a deep honor and respect for the greatness of who God is and treating him accordingly. It is looking at God and relating to him as the glorious and excellent being who deserves only the best of anything and every thing that we can offer. The fear of God results in obedience.
When a person fears the Lord, he is putting himself or herself in the zone or pathway of promotion and prosperity. It is a superior kind of prosperity because there is no sorrow to it, and it lasts a lifetime and forever. Embrace this pathway and discover a life of promotion and prosperity from God and for the honor of God!
