THERE’S MUCH TO BE THANKFUL FOR
FOCUS ON WHAT YOU HAVE, NOT ON WHAT YOU DON’T HAVE (Psalm 116:7; Luke 12:15) SINCE WE ARE HEAVENLY CITIZENS, WE ARE MOST CONCERNED WITH HEAVENLY BLESSINGS (Philippians 3:20; 1 Peter 1:3–4) SINCE OUR HOME IS IN HEAVEN AND WE ARE MERELY TRANSIENTS ON THIS EARTH, THE BLESSINGS WE LOOK FOR MOST EXCITEDLY ARE HEAVENLY BLESSINGS (1 Peter 2:11; 1 Cor. 4:18) BUT SINCE THE LORD RICHLY PROVIDES US WITH ALL THINGS FOR OUR ENJOYMENT, WE ALSO REJOICE IN MATERIAL AND EARTHLY GIFTS FROM GOD (1 Timothy 6:17; Ecclesiastes 5:19-20) SOME OF THE MANY THINGS WE CAN BE THANKFUL FOR- We are still physically alive and living in relatively good health (Psalms 150:6)
- Through repentance and faith, we are children of God now and will be perfected when Jesus Christ returns to earth (1 John 3:1-3)
- As we overcome, we have hope to live forever in heaven with God and those who obey Him (Daniel 12:2–3; Revelation 21:1–8)
- As we live in the fear of God, we will not be shaken when the world is being shaken (Psalm 15:1-5; Hebrews 12:26-29)
- With contentment, we find that we have much of what we need to live on and some extra for enjoyment (Philippians 4:11-13; 1 Timothy 6:6-9; Psalm 103:5)
- As we trust in, live obediently, and honor God financially, we have assurance that we will always have what we need in the years ahead (Psalm 37: 25-26; Proverbs 3:9-10)
- Our family is blessed as we fear (deeply honor) God (Psalm 128:1-4)
- And more
