Trusting God in the Dark Times
LATEST SUNDAY WORD
This past week, so much of our thoughts, conversations, and silent prayers were related to the devastation caused by typhoon Pablo. We tried to follow the news, find out about family, relatives, or friends who may have been affected by the typhoon and the destruction it caused. We sought, in our own little ways, to comfort, send help, and pray for those who have been hit by the typhoon.
Aside from the physical typhoon, there are also emotional, financial, health, or other typhoons that strike our lives at certain times and threaten to bring harm. In one conversation recently, someone told me that he is also going through storms but is thankful to God that the storm was beginning to stop.
Storms will come. We all go through dark times at some points in our lives. Our efforts don’t have to be about watching out for those emotional or spiritual storms so we can avoid them as much as it should be on being strong and ready when they come. Today, we will look into the Bible and learn some ways we can respond when we go through dark times.
Are you experiencing darkness in some area of your life? Are strong storms beating the boat of your life and threatening to cause damage? Are you facing a particularly difficult trial these days? Do not be afraid. The Lord is with you in the dark times of your life. Like David, the shepherd boy who became the great king of Israel, you can say, “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me...” (Psalm 23:4).
So rejoice, be courageous, and maintain your confidence in God. You are covered and sustained by God. You will come out well (in fact, better) as you trust God even in the dark times.
